[Editor’s Note: This audiobook was recorded 4+ years ago, back near the beginning of my entry into the alternative media. The audio isn’t as great as it is now, but actually came out pretty good considering.
Please bear with the slight background noise/line static for now; at some point, we’ll put out a new-and-improved version of this audiobook.]

FOREWORD
When I first picked up the little green booklet emblazoned with the words, Vonu: The Search for Personal Freedom, I was unaware of the significance of that moment. I was quite ignorant of the fact that this book, the one I was holding in my hands, would completely alter the plan I had for my life. I also had no idea that the response to this strategy would be so profoundly positive. Individuals (myself included) are seeking a way off the plantation. And that way is vonu.
“Vonu” is an awkward contraction of the words “VOluntary Not vUlnerable” and, simply defined, is the condition or quality of, as well as the action of achieving, an invulnerability to coercion. So, a vonuan is someone who makes radical lifestyle changes to become more invulnerable to the coercion of the State and the statist-servile society. These lifestyles include van nomadism, minimalist sailboating, intentional communities, country shopping (perpetual traveling), wilderness vonu, and sovereign free ports (i.e. libertarian countries), and more.
In Part 1 of this book, Rayo will walk you through the philosophy of vonu; in other words, what it IS and what it IS NOT. You’ll come across a few, possibly new terms, namely controlled schizophrenia, political crusading, collective movementism, and the statist-servile society. I’ll leave those for him to define, but the important part for future vonuans is this formula that Kyle and I worked out:
Political Crusading + Collective Movementism + Controlled Schizophrenia = The Statist-Servile Society
And the main enemy of the vonuan is the statist-servile society.
Rayo will also present some other interesting ideas; namely, some foundational definitions and philosophy, liberty at a profit, mean-time to harassment, the way to gauge the efficacy vonu, Rayo’s presentation of the non-aggression principle in the 1960s, and much more.
In Part 2, Rayo will walk you through the practice of vonu. You’ll learn about an abundance of possible lifestyle changes and even get a direct insight into him and Roberta’s life as vonuans, including: what they had on their live aboard van, how they conducted import-export with the servile society, the methods they used to construct their polyethylene a-tent, his last known communication, and more.
In short, what you are about to read will be an introduction of sorts, a foundation from which to build.
You’ll even hear the story of two van nomads, Karl and Jahla. They converted a Mercedez-Benz Sprinter van into a luxurious, functional, mobile “studio apartment,” so they could chase killer waves across Australia. This will serve as a modern case study of the efficacy of this strategy – Karl and Jahla are definitely vonuans.
I also decided to add two original articles, one by Kyle Rearden and one by myself. This will give you an idea of how we are developing vonu into the modern day.
The book you are about to read was what initially inspired us launch The Vonu Podcast. It was the first stepping stone in what has now turned into a two year investigation that has impacted countless thousands of individuals, many of whom are pursuing their own lifestyles if they aren’t living one already.
Since then, we’ve completed Seasons 1 and 2 of the podcast, and are currently on Season 3, wherein we are developing this freedom strategy into the modern day. Since then, we have received an abundance of new vonu/libertarian publications from the 1960s-1990s, which I then digitized and released for free in digital format. From those, we learned a lot of new information about vonu and have received further insight into the mind of Rayo, one of the most interesting freedom pioneers to ever walk this earth.
Since then, my entire life plan has changed; now, I see a clear path to a free future. No more, will I have to suffer through the exhausting 9-5 grind; no more, will I be relegated to “two weeks of vacation” a year; no more, will I be relegated to a life of, well, mere survival. Instead, I will do what it takes for me to be happy.
I am a vonuan and I will be free. And it all started here. Please enjoy, and always remember, vonu is yours for the making.
