TVP #69: The Rave as a T.A.Z. with John Vibes

On this episode of The Vonu Podcast, I’m pleased to welcome John Vibes to the podcast to continue this new series on temporary autonomous zones.

Last year, John published his book, Paper Squares and Purple Stars: My Life As A Rave Outlaw. Therein, he talks about his time as a partier/rave promoter and all of the crazy experiences he lived through. He also spends ample time discussing the logistics and security that help ensure the maintenance/success of the T.A.Z.

More specifically, we talk about:

  • The different “cultures” found within the rave scene (“underground” versus mainstream);
  • God’s Basement, an infamous rave location featured on mainstream news;
  • Strategies and tactics John and his associates utilized to remain as invulnerable to the coercers as possible;
  • How rave locations are selected;
  • Choosing best times of the day/weather for transport/relocation;
  • Amber, a composite character in his book, who achieved financially independent/early retirement by trading in the black markets;
  • Conflict resolution in the rave scene;
  • And much more…

Please enjoy and share the podcast around!
