A Van Nomad In The Making…

Hey ya’ll, Shane here. I’ve got some pretty big news for you.

As regular listeners will know, my preferred vonu strategy was and is minimalist sailboating — in other words, I want to sell all of my shit, buy a boat, and traverse the high seas. The only problem? I don’t know how to sail a boat, it’s expensive, and there are no places to buy my diabetes supplies on the open ocean. It’s understandable that I had issues putting together concrete plans in achieving that goal, right? Haha.

That said, I’ve always taken Rayo’s suggestions quite seriously, one of them being the fact that van nomadism is cheap, easy, and can serve as a great starting point for someone transitioning out of the servile society. Well, after months and months and months of contemplation, research, and case studies, the plans are in place: I will be a van nomad within the next 1-2 years.

I’ve already started my “practice runs.” You can view the first three “vlogs” below.

But, I won’t be alone out there. Believe it or not, there is already a well-established, quite terrific van nomad community here in the US; some of these folks have been living the way Rayo did for over 30 years; they have their own mobile intentional communities, yearly meet-ups, and much more.

So, what does this mean for The Vonu Podcast? Well, the podcasts will continue, long into the future, and when I get on the road, I can guaran-damn-tee you, they will get better.

Can you imagine an in-person van nomad roundtable discussion? Incredible tours of liveaboard vehicles? Off-grid podcasts from the road? Maybe even full-length documentaries? Vlogs from the road? The possibilities are endless and I’m SO EXCITED for the future — as a reader/listener of TVP, you should be too.

Nothing is going to stop me from achieving this goal; it’s well within reach, but it will just take some time. From my calculations (barring any crypto-currency explosions/further implosions), I should be able to head West around March-April 2019, but I want to give YOU the chance to help expedite this process.

There are two GREAT ways you can do so:

  1. Just financially support the podcast; for the foreseeable future, all contributions made will go directly to my Vonuan Van Nomad fund.
  2. I would love to find a like-minded sponsor that believes in what I am doing to help get the ball rolling, and for me to help promote their great product, service, and/or website to everyone I come across on the road! If you have any ideas or have any connections, I would greatly appreciate you putting us in contact!

Thanks so much for all of your support; without this podcast and without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Cheers to the future, my friend. Man, does it look bright.

-Shane
